Bethune Family Welcome Letter
Dear Bethune Families,
Welcome to a new school year! We are very excited to welcome our many new families to Bethune. Together, we are going to create a strong community and an excellent school for our students. We are very proud of the team of educators that work at Bethune and look forward to the new opportunities that come with becoming an Arts Magnet.
Students will experience collaborative learning opportunities that integrate the arts into all core subjects to enhance engagement in daily experiences. Bethune Arts Magnet School will celebrate community, creativity, and arts integration. Students will also have opportunities to learn and showcase their work through arts experiences such as artist residencies, field trips, community partnerships, showcases, and performances.
We are writing today with information about the beginning of the school year. First off, we want to invite you to our Open House, Wednesday, September 1, from 3:30-5:30 PM. The details may change depending on the safety protocols for COVID.
The first day of school for grades 1st-5th is Wednesday, September 8 and the first day of school for High Five and Kindergarten is Friday, September 10. Our school hours are 8:05-2:35, and the doors will open for breakfast at 7:50.
Please note that because we are transitioning to an arts magnet, Bethune students will no longer be required to wear uniforms to school.
Families new to Bethune will need to come in before Open House to register their children. Beginning Thursday, August 12, the office will be open daily from 9:00- 2:00. Our secretary, Ms. Ann Lee Dawson, will help families get registered for the school year. It is essential that your child is registered to ensure they are all set for their first day of school. Any High Five students or Kindergarten students will also need to come in to register at the school.
Information about transportation will be communicated directly from the district, and if you have questions, you can call the district Transportation Dispatch at 612.668.3730. Our Transportation Coordinator & Family Liaison, Sherronda Wiley, can support you by contacting the main office (612.668.2550) after August 16th. The other office team members are Ann Lee Dawson (Secretary) and Kelly McCarver (Health Office).
We also know there is a lot of uncertainty about COVID and the new Delta variant. We are currently working on our safety plan to protect the health of our entire school community. It will continue to be important that your child uses a well-fitting mask and that your child stays at home if they have any symptoms of illness. Let us know how we can support you.
Welcome to Bethune Magnet Arts School, see you soon!
