Room 105-Ms. Stephanie and Mrs. Kim

Hi! We are the K-2 special education teachers for the Citywide Autism Program at Bethune Community School. We started as autism teachers in 2011. We both have completed our Masters in Special Education with an emphasis in Development Cognitive Delay and are both also licensed in Autism.

In our K-2 Autism classroom we focus on highly structured, individualized programming to meet students IEP goals. We also work on communication and language skills, social skills,  positive behavioral programming, sensory activities, and inclusion with mainstream peers and activities when appropriate.

We are using The ZONES of Regulation. The Zones is a systematic, cognitive behavior approach used to teach self-regulation by categorizing all the different ways we feel and states of alertness we experience into four concrete zones.  The Zones curriculum provides strategies to teach students to become more aware of, and independent in, controlling their emotions and impulses, managing their sensory needs, and improving their ability to problem solve conflicts.

Related services include speech/language, occupational therapy, physical therapy and adaptive physical education.
